Sean Strickland is closing in on his next UFC middleweight title defense. While the promotion has not yet officially confirmed Nassourdine Imavov as the next title challenger, the 185-pound champion revealed on social media that discussions are actively underway to finalize the bout.
Taking to Twitter, Strickland stated that financial terms are the final hurdle remaining before the matchup is confirmed. "We're discussing pay now," Strickland wrote. "Once that detail is squared, its locked in.
The issue is no one cares about the fake Frenchman. We're almost there."
Imavov (17-4) positioned himself for a championship opportunity on the strength of a five-fight winning streak inside the Octagon. The surging contender compiled a perfect run across seven months in 2024, securing victories over Roman Dolidze, Jared Cannonier, and Brendan Allen.
Strickland (31-7) re-claimed the UFC middleweight belt this past May with an upset split-decision victory over Khamzat Chimaev. That championship win came less than three months after he scored a knockout victory over Anthony Hernandez.
