Russian grappling promotion ACBJJ has unveiled the lineup for ACBJJ 23, scheduled for Nov. 13 at Farmasi Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The card will be headlined by a rematch between veteran Brazilian grapplers Rousimar Palhares and Andre Galvao, who will clash at 100 kilograms under Combat Jiu-Jitsu rules.
The matchup serves as a rematch of their 2011 ADCC under-88kg final in Nottingham, England, where Galvao earned a 9-4 points victory. Fifteen years after that meeting, the two will compete with strikes to the body allowed. According to event promoter and former UFC fighter Davi Ramos, punches and kicks to the body are permitted while head strikes are prohibited, with rounds scored on a 10-9 system evaluating impact, fight control, and aggression.
In the co-main event, UFC middleweights Kelvin Gastelum and Rio de Janeiro native Rodolfo Vieira will meet in an 88-kilogram contest under standard grappling rules. Additionally, according to information obtained by Sherdog, UFC veteran Edson Barboza is expected to appear on the card, though his participation has not yet been officially announced.
Palhares, known as "Toquinho," competed in the UFC from 2008 to 2013, going 8-4 with four heel-hook submissions before being released for repeatedly holding submissions past the referee's stoppage. Galvao, a five-time world champion and six-time ADCC champion who also compiled a 5-2 record in professional MMA, returns to action to face his compatriot in the headliner.
