Brendan Allen kept his momentum going this past Saturday at UFC Vegas 122, securing a fifth-round submission victory over Christian Leroy Duncan. The result marked Allen's fourth consecutive victory and brought his record to 11-2 dating back to 2022. While Allen has his sights set on facing Dricus du Plessis, former UFC champion Robert Whittaker believes "All In" should pursue a different former titleholder.
Speaking on his MMArcade Podcast, Whittaker argued that Allen should instead be matched up against Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev, who previously dominated du Plessis for the title at UFC 319, is coming off the first loss of his career after dropping his first title defense to Sean Strickland at UFC 328 in May. Whittaker noted that Allen's skill set matches up well, stating that Allen is more accomplished on the feet and possesses a jiu-jitsu game that could disrupt Chimaev.
Whittaker added that booking Allen against Chimaev would also leave du Plessis available for a fan-friendly bout against Gregory Rodrigues, which he described as a potential "beautiful slugfest." Meanwhile, when addressing the 185-pound division, Whittaker dismissed any thought of dropping back down from light heavyweight, citing that his training and lifestyle are much better in his current division.
