The aftermath of UFC Vegas 123 has been dominated by controversy following a disputed officiating call during the main event between Tom Nolan and Renato Moicano. Referee Dan Miragliotta drew widespread criticism after ordering a standup while Moicano was actively attacking Nolan from back control. Immediately following the restart, Nolan rocked Moicano with a knee, ultimately securing his sixth consecutive victory and earning a $100,000 Performance of the Night bonus.

The sequence sparked sharp criticism from veteran coach Ray Longo, who addressed the incident on the Anik & Florian Podcast. Longo openly questioned whether promotional expectations or pressure played a role in Miragliotta's decision to intervene during a dominant ground position.

“I want to know if Dan, there was anything from the top that led him to do that,” Longo said. “I don’t think he’s deciding to do that on his own, that’s how bad it was. And we know that the UFC, when you hold a guy against the cage, they don’t even let you on the Contender Series.

I tell my guys this, you’re saying effective coaching, for the guys that go on the Contender, you know what they’re looking for. If you don’t do it, I don’t want to hear any complaining. I want to be an MMA coach and come up with a strategy to get a win, but you can’t do that anymore.

If you don’t fight a certain fight, you’re not getting in that organization.”

Longo also weighed in on the broadcast reaction, noting that cageside analyst Daniel Cormier criticized Miragliotta’s decision on air while still attempting to keep attention on Nolan's performance. Longo viewed that approach as an incomplete response, arguing that severe officiating errors should not be glossed over regardless of the broadcast team's position.
