Former Bellator champion Patricio “Pitbull” Freire delivered a decisive first-round knockout over Doo Ho Choi in their featherweight bout at UFC 331 on Sept. 19 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Entering the Octagon for the final fight of his contract, Freire had repeatedly stated his desire to extend his stay in the promotion and promised a performance worthy of a renewal, which he delivered by dropping Choi (17-5) with a massive right hand.

The victory moves Freire's overall record to 38-9 following a difficult start inside the UFC. Prior to UFC 331, the Brazilian dropped bouts to Yair Rodriguez and Aaron Pico, with his only promotional victory coming via a lackluster unanimous decision against Dan Ige.

Freire acknowledged his previous showings in his post-fight interview, apologizing to fans before setting his sights on his next target. “I’m sorry about my last three fights,” Freire said. “But I’m so happy… The pressure here is bigger [than Bellator]. But now I feel comfortable… Jean Silva, let’s see who is the dog.”

Freire's callout focused on Jean Silva (18-3), who is known for barking at opponents. Silva, who defeated Jose Delgado at Noche UFC 4 earlier in the month, has secured five finishes in his six UFC victories, with his lone promotional setback coming against two-time title challenger Diego Lopes.
