Movsar Evloev's undefeated run came to an end at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi, where he fell to featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in the event's headliner. Volkanovski closed out the bout in the second round, finishing Evloev with a flurry of strikes with only six seconds remaining on the clock. The result handed Evloev the first defeat of his professional mixed martial arts career, dropping his record to 20-1.

While Evloev praised Volkanovski in his post-fight interview, UFC lightweight Paddy Pimblett was critical of how the challenger handled the final moments of the second frame. Reacting to the fight live, Pimblett argued that Evloev gave the referee a reason to stop the contest rather than surviving until the horn.

“He’s hurt, he cut him there, he’s bleeding,” Pimblett said. “When there’s five seconds left, you’ve got to keep moving so the fight stays on. You can’t start just covering up.”

Pimblett had previously predicted that Evloev would struggle to establish his wrestling against Volkanovski. Prior to the title bout, Evloev had compiled a 10-0 record inside the Octagon, earning his shot with victories over Lerone Murphy, Aljamain Sterling, Arnold Allen, and Diego Lopes. In Pimblett's view, Volkanovski's feints and striking adjustments allowed the champion to pull away in Round 2 after a closely contested opening round, ultimately setting up the finishing sequence.
