Mokaev Blames TKO and Paramount for Recent UFC Contract Decisions
Former flyweight contender Muhammad Mokaev claims UFC parent company TKO and broadcast partner Paramount, rather than CEO Dana White, are to blame for winning fighters being let go.

Former UFC flyweight Muhammad Mokaev believes the promotion's parent company, TKO, and broadcast partner Paramount are responsible for recent roster decisions rather than CEO Dana White. The UFC has faced criticism for declining to renew contracts for fighters on winning streaks, notably parting ways with Farid Basharat (7-0 in the UFC) and Michael Page (5-1 in the UFC).
Mokaev spoke out following White's comments at the UFC Edmonton postfight press conference regarding Basharat's departure. White suggested that difficulties with matchmakers or turning down bout offers could explain why an unbeaten fighter was not re-signed. Mokaev rejected that reasoning on X, calling it an excuse.
"Only thing they gotta say is ‘the matchmakers can’t deal with him.’ Total bullsh*t answer. Still I don’t blame Dana, I blame Paramount and TKO," Mokaev wrote. Mokaev left the promotion under similar circumstances more than two years ago. He completed his contract by defeating Manel Kape in July 2024 to move to 7-0 inside the Octagon, after which the UFC opted not to re-sign him citing behind-the-scenes issues, while Mokaev stated matchmakers had warned him about his grappling-heavy fighting style.
