Jiu-jitsu standout Mikey Musumeci is closing in on a transition to mixed martial arts following his grappling victory over Bryce Mitchell at UFC BJJ 11 on Sept. 24. The 30-year-old subsequently revealed that he plans to make his MMA debut in the near future, with his long-term ambition set on competing inside the Octagon.

Musumeci expressed that his ultimate objective is to capture the Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight title at 125 pounds, though he acknowledges that reaching the pinnacle of the sport remains a distant milestone. To prepare for the move, Musumeci is currently focusing on his striking development to ensure he can safely transition fights to the ground without getting knocked out.

“My goal would be to go to the UFC at 125 pounds and win that belt,” Musumeci told Ariel Helwani. “I have a lot of work to do before then. Let’s get my level up, let’s get me not to get killed standing and let’s get me to the floor. I think people are going to be really surprised at my level.”

Musumeci also revealed that he had initially planned to make his MMA debut just one day after defeating Mitchell in their grappling bout. Although that matchup fell through, he stated that he is currently in active talks with multiple promotions to finalize his upcoming MMA debut, according to Sherdog.
