Michael Morales and Carlos Prates are scheduled to compete for the Ultimate Fighting Championship interim welterweight title at UFC 336 on Jan. 30, 2027, in Toronto. The winner of the matchup is expected to face champion Islam Makhachev in a title unification bout. Makhachev defended his belt against Ian Garry in August and initially indicated he wanted to compete again before Ramadan next year, but UFC CEO Dana White stated the champion now intends to return after Ramadan.
While Prates targeted Makhachev with criticism, Morales turned his attention to his upcoming Brazilian foe following the fight announcement.
In a video shared on Instagram, Morales responded to previous remarks made by Prates. “You called me a coward, but you needed ten months to get ready to fight me?” Morales said. “I wait for my moment and take whatever opportunity comes my way. Now shut your mouth and quit smoking, because trust me, you’re gonna need those lungs.”
