Luis Francischinelli has officially joined the UFC’s welterweight division after an impressive first-round finish on Week 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10. Competing at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas on Oct. 13, the 6-foot-6 Brazilian stopped William Rentz at 2:18 of the opening round.

Rentz (8-3) looked to neutralize Francischinelli's length early, immediately closing the distance to land a body-lock takedown. Francischinelli (7-1) defended well from his back, threatening a heel hook and delivering elbows before working his way back up. After quickly standing up from a second takedown, Francischinelli capitalized as Rentz pressed forward, dropping him with a sharp counter left hook. Ground strikes followed on the canvas, forcing the referee to halt the bout.

UFC CEO Dana White awarded the 30-year-old a contract, praising his performance and unique frame for the 170-pound division. "Luis, you’re 7-1 now, you’re 170 pounds, you’re 10 feet tall," White said. "Another fun guy that I’m excited to watch fight in the UFC."

An emotional Francischinelli revealed after the fight that his wife had been hospitalized. Following the contract announcement, he shared a positive update, stating she had been discharged.
