Reigning UFC women's bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison believes her overall combat sports résumé outshines that of former champion Ronda Rousey. Speaking on the "Deep Waters" podcast, Harrison (19-1) reflected on how she would match up against Rousey in her prime, acknowledging two past defeats against Rousey when Harrison was 15 years old while asserting that her own career accomplishments stand higher.
Harrison, who trained at the same gym where both learned the armbar, distinguished their respective judo careers. While Rousey captured an Olympic bronze medal in 2008, Harrison secured back-to-back Olympic gold medals in 2012 and 2016, alongside a world championship, three world championship bronze medals, and titles across every Grand Slam, Grand Prix, and World Cup. Harrison expressed gratitude for Rousey's role in paving the way for women's mixed martial arts, but also questioned the level of opposition Rousey faced during her meteoric rise.
After previously questioning her recovery following neck surgery, Harrison declared herself back at full strength. The 19-1 titleholder is now preparing for her first UFC championship defense, scheduled against former two-division champion Amanda Nunes at UFC 334 on Nov. 14 at Madison Square Garden in New York.
