Jon Jones has not competed since his stoppage victory over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November 2024. While the former champion views that performance as a fitting end to his fighting career, he revealed in an interview with The Schmo that missing out on the promotion's White House event stands as one of his few lingering regrets.

Jones reflected on the emotional significance of his victory at UFC 309, noting that his father and late brother were both in attendance, alongside then-President-elect Donald Trump. Defeating Miocic, whom he described as widely regarded as the greatest heavyweight of all time, provided a storybook ending. "I really do believe that was my last moment inside the cage – and it was great," Jones said.

"I got to fight, my brother was still alive at the time, my father was there. I got to tell the world that I love Jesus, and that will never change... to defeat him, I don't really see how it can get bigger than that."

Despite his contentment with that conclusion, Jones admitted that UFC Freedom 250—the UFC's White House card—was difficult to watch from the sidelines. Prior to that card, Jones stated his team was negotiating for a slot, though UFC CEO Dana White maintained Jones was never under consideration. "That was one of the few nights in my career where I just was thinking, 'I should have been there,'" Jones said.

"I usually don't regret decisions, but that was one of my big regrets in my career. But if I never fight again, I think I'm pretty damn happy."
