Jean Silva secured a stoppage victory over Jose Delgado in the main event of Noche UFC in Glendale, Arizona, but the featherweight contender revealed his preparation was plagued by several significant setbacks. Silva was originally scheduled to face former interim featherweight champion Yair Rodriguez in a five-round bout before Delgado stepped in on less than a month's notice.
Speaking on a video posted to his YouTube channel, Silva detailed a string of physical injuries leading up to the fight. Four weeks out from the bout, Silva suffered a cut over his right eye just one day before learning of the opponent change. As training camp progressed, the Fighting Nerds fighter also dealt with a shin issue, broke the toe next to his big toe, and felt discomfort in his hip, which forced him to alter his training.
Silva also faced issues during fight week despite successfully hitting championship weight on Friday morning. Silva explained that he vomited multiple times afterward and arrived at the arena on Saturday weighing around 161 pounds while wearing clothes and shoes. Although Delgado hurt him early in a wild first round, Silva pushed through the adversity to earn the stoppage, noting that his willingness to take risks is what will make him a champion.
