Jacob Smith picked up his fourth victory inside the Octagon on Saturday, stopping late-notice replacement Bruce Whitehead in a preliminary matchup at UFC 332. Whitehead stepped into the bout on short notice after Kevin Holland withdrew due to injury.
Following the win, Smith reflected on the performance and adjusting to the late change. "I knew what I got to give, and not too many can withstand what I’ve got when I’m ready to send that," Smith told the UFC. "I was expecting a finish, kind of a walk-off knockout, but it was slick in there, so I had to get him to the ground and do what I did. It was a great night tonight."
Despite the victory, Smith expressed severe frustration with Holland, with whom he shares a prolonged booking history. The two fighters were originally scheduled to clash in July before Holland's injury pushed the pairing back to UFC 332. After withdrawing from the rescheduled date, Holland was subsequently booked to face Uros Medic at UFC 334 next month.
"I want to murder Kevin Holland. [He] put me through two fight camps," Smith said. "I’m setting up my life outside of fighting, too, and for me to put that on pause to set up a fight, and then you cancel the fight week and get us to reschedule...
Your foot’s still hurt, but you’re accepting fights with other dudes. You better hope Uros Medic gets your ass out of there, because if you win, I’m coming for you."
