Welterweight Eric Nolan is eager to secure his first Octagon victory as he prepares to face veteran Court McGhee at UFC 332 on Oct. 3 at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Nolan (8-5), who enlisted in the United States Marine Corps straight out of high school in 2015 and served until 2019, began training in mixed martial arts during his time in the military.
Having dropped both of his UFC appearances so far, Nolan believes he has let down his fellow Marines. The fighter explained that his longtime ambition has always been to represent the Marine Corps at the highest level of MMA, and he views this upcoming matchup as his chance to deliver for them.
"When I started MMA, I always said I wanted to represent the United States Marine Corps at the highest level," Nolan told MMA Fighting. "And it took me eight years to get here. And I finally have the opportunity to do that.
And I know my brothers and sisters out there are rooting for me. So, now it’s just time to turn it up and show the world why I’m in the UFC."
Nolan also shared that his inbox is flooded with messages from Marines each time he competes, and he makes an effort to reply to every single one to keep them inspired. He will look to translate that support into his first UFC win when he steps into the cage against McGhee (22-14) on Saturday.
