UFC CEO Dana White has provided an encouraging update regarding Raoni Barcelos after the veteran fighter suffered a concerning stoppage loss against Raul Rosas Jr. in the main event of UFC Vegas 121 at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas. Barcelos was leading on the judges' scorecards heading into the fifth round before appearing to lose consciousness during a wrestling exchange against the cage, prompting the referee to halt the bout. He was subsequently removed from the Octagon on a stretcher.
Speaking at the Dana White's Contender Series Season 10 Week 8 post-fight press conference, White stated that Barcelos regained consciousness at the hospital and is currently lucid and able to walk. The 39-year-old remains under medical care while awaiting test results to determine the exact cause of the incident.
White emphasized that strict medical precautions were maintained throughout the event. All pre-fight medical screenings had been triple-checked beforehand, and the venue was staffed with six doctors and three ambulances. Barcelos was bypassed past Valley Hospital and transported directly to a Level I trauma center. As for whether Barcelos will compete again, White stressed that his sole concern at this stage is the Brazilian's health.
