UFC CEO Dana White has addressed the decision to part ways with boxer Shakur Stevenson, explaining why he offered Stevenson a release from Zuffa Boxing before the fighter ever competed under the banner.

Speaking at the UFC 333 postfight news conference, White drew a distinction between Stevenson’s departure and situations involving contracted UFC fighters who request releases. When asked why Stevenson was allowed to exit while others remain tied to their agreements, White emphasized the brief duration of their partnership.

“Well, we never even did one fight with the guy. We were in business with him for a couple months,” White said.

White declined to criticize Stevenson or his representatives when asked if the boxer had been difficult to work with. “They're happy, you know, with where we're at with it. I have nothing bad to say about him or his team, but I offered him the release, and they accepted,” White stated. White did not disclose a specific reason for terminating the business relationship or provide additional details about their discussions.
