Former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has opened up about the emotional and traumatic circumstances that preceded his February 2022 arrest in Santa Clara County, California.

Speaking on the Shawn Ryan Show, as reported by MMA Fighting, Velasquez detailed the moment his young son revealed alleged abuse occurring at his daycare. Velasquez explained that after putting his son to bed, the child disclosed what had been happening. When asked who was responsible, his son identified Harry Goularte, the son of the daycare operator, and indicated other children were also involved. Velasquez stated they followed legal procedures by reporting the matter to authorities, but Goularte was released that same week on Friday without an ankle monitor.

Velasquez expressed the deep pain of watching his son experience trauma and break down crying following the disclosure. The situation culminated on Feb. 28, 2022, when Velasquez engaged in a high-speed vehicle chase and attempted to shoot at Goularte.

In August 2024, the 44-year-old Velasquez pleaded no-contest to multiple charges, including attempted murder. He was sentenced to five years in prison and later secured his release.
