Brian Ortega has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Renato Moicano at UFC 331, which takes place Sept. 19 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The matchup was pulled from the card after Ortega suffered an injury during his preparation.
Ortega revealed the details of his injury on Instagram, explaining that a severe laceration above his left eye required stitches and prevented him from making his UFC lightweight debut. "I have to pull out of the fight because of the stitches in my eye," Ortega wrote. "I’m on weight, I’ve been training my *ss off, and this has honestly been one of the best camps I’ve ever had."
With Ortega sidelined, Moicano has already been handed a new assignment. The Brazilian is now scheduled to face Tom Nolan in the main event of the UFC Fight Night card (UFC Vegas 123) on Oct. 31 at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Following the removal of Moicano vs. Ortega, UFC 331 moves forward with 12 fights, headlined by a UFC flyweight championship rematch between Alexandre Pantoja and Van.
