Brian Ortega has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled bout against Renato Moicano at UFC 331 on Sept. 19 in Los Angeles. The featherweight contender announced the decision after suffering a cut over his left eye that required stitches, marking his second withdrawal from a matchup against Moicano in 2026 after previously pulling out of UFC 326 in March due to injuries.
Ortega shared photos and video of the injury on social media to address the cancellation of his hometown fight. "This one hurts," Ortega wrote. "I have to pull out of the fight because of the stitches in my eye.
I’m on weight, I’ve been training my ass off, and this has honestly been one of the best camps I’ve ever had. I was really looking forward to fighting at home in Los Angeles in front of my family, friends, and everyone who’s been supporting me."
Currently on a two-fight losing skid following defeats to Sterling and Diego Lopes, Ortega indicated that a quick turnaround is already in development. "My next fight is in soon, so I’m getting right back to training," Ortega stated. "We’ve brought some new people into camp and I’m excited to show you guys a new side of me.
Thank you to everyone who’s been supporting me through all of this. I’ll see you guys in November." With Ortega out, Moicano is now slated to headline UFC Vegas 123 against Tom Nolan.
