Following a standout performance at Noche UFC, Jean Silva is setting his sights on championship gold. Silva earned his second consecutive victory on Saturday by knocking out Jose Miguel Delgado in the event's headliner, subsequently calling for a shot at the winner of the upcoming UFC 333 featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev.
However, former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling believes a direct showdown between them is needed first. Sterling, who is also on a two-fight winning streak, suggested they meet in December for a title eliminator, giving Silva ample time to recover from injuries suffered in the lead-up to Noche UFC so they can compete at full strength.
Sterling argued that squaring off later this year would keep both fighters active and prevent a bottleneck in the division, particularly if Evloev claims the title and takes extended time away. “Take the time, heal up, let’s run this shit for December, and we do this and see who is the clear-cut No. 1 contender,” Sterling said, emphasizing that staying active is the most practical path forward.
While Silva has outlined pre-fight injuries that require recovery time, he has not officially accepted or dismissed Sterling's proposal as both featherweights aim for their next steps toward the belt.
