Alexander Volkov made an unexpected appearance at the UFC 333 prefight news conference in Abu Dhabi, directly asking Ultimate Fighting Championship CEO Dana White what he needed to do to earn a title shot. The heavyweight veteran explained that after noticing he was not scheduled for the press conference, he entered the venue through the general gates like a standard fan to pose questions to White and the fighters.

The exchange prompted debate over whether White recognized the veteran contender on the microphone. While White maintained that he did, Volkov expressed doubt during an interview with Ariel Helwani, humorously suggesting White might confuse his name with featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski. Volkov acknowledged that with more than 500 fighters on the UFC roster, individual recognition is secondary to his primary goal of securing a championship opportunity.

Volkov has built strong momentum in the heavyweight division since suffering a disputed split-decision loss to current champion Ciryl Gane in 2024. The 6-foot-7 Russian has since compiled three consecutive victories, most recently securing a decision win over Rizvan Kuniev at UFC 333.
