Alexander Volkanovski Proposes Retirement Superfight With Justin Gaethje
Following his stoppage victory over Movsar Evloev at UFC 333, Alexander Volkanovski expressed interest in a lightweight superfight against Justin Gaethje that would serve as his retirement bout.

Alexander Volkanovski delivered a masterclass at UFC 333 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi, finishing the previously undefeated Movsar Evloev in the main event. Following the performance, the featherweight champion spoke at the post-fight press conference about his accomplishment and what could lie ahead.
While Volkanovski stated he is open to continuing to defend his featherweight belt, he has also been lobbying for a shot at lightweight champion Justin Gaethje. Although Volkanovski fell short in his two previous attempts to capture the 155-pound title, UFC CEO Dana White admitted that the Australian's extensive career achievements could keep the possibility open.
To ensure the bout would not disrupt the lightweight division, Volkanovski proposed framing the matchup as a retirement bout. "I want it to be fair," Volkanovski said. "So a lot of times I’m like, I don’t want to hold divisions up.
But I believe we could do this and not hold the division up. Again, whether it’s both our retirement fight and put it on the line, which would be cool, little bit of a superfight, 38-year-olds going at it... So if they wanted to give me that opportunity, I would retire.
Win or lose, retire; then it’s vacant, so I’m not holding the division up." He added that otherwise, he is prepared to take his career one fight at a time.
